Michael Phelps: [OK, OK! Last post of the evening, I promise. You may be saying to yourself, "Robert is bored or needs to get a life" and you would be correct on both counts.] Alcohol, a legal drug, is far more destructive in every way than marijuana. But it IS legal and weed is NOT. However unfair that may be is not the point here. When stars, and athletes fall into that category, reach the ultimate heights of their work and are in the public eye constantly, often fall into the illusion they are invincible, bulletproof, unassailable. “Everyone loves me, I can do no wrong.” Wrong. Mr. Phelps, as I am told, is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. Even so, one might think he would at least have the common sense not to attend a party and participate in an illegal activity ESPECIALLY when cameras are around. Paparazzi are everywhere and if anyone should know that it would be Mr. Phelps, a publicity hog if there ever was one. No look what he has gone and done: no more high-paying endorsement contracts. You just can’t break the law if you’re a beloved, sainted, highly publicized and adored athlete and get away with it today. Well, not entirely. Consider ARod. Likely a slap on the wrist in the long run. Will they eventually take away Michael’s medals? Unlikely unless the religious far right gets on his case big time although let’s hope no one with any sense whatsoever is still listening to THEM.
