I was just reading on TVGuide.com that Jason is returning to TV next fall on TBS. He will be in a show called Memphis Beat, where he is a cop by day, Elvis inpersonator by night. He lookes good, has his hair cut and is clean shaven. Although there were some pics from the show with a few of his buttons undone, I could not see if there was, or was not any chest fur. Just thought I would pass this along.

If you haven’t seen “My Name Is Earl”, you should. For at least this one good reason: Jason Lee’s “look” is intentional for the character. Without this slovenly, mustachioed, paunchy hairiness, he would not in any way make a good Earl. Earl is a not-too-extreme example of the type he represents. How do I know? I lived among them as a kid.

The premise of the show is so funny, original and “out there” that once you get into it, you will watch pretty much every episode. Ribisi is fantastic as an unregenerate thief out on parole who at one time steals everything in Earl’s motel room [Earl was thrown out of his house by his seedy, strumpet wife] where he has been invited to stay and sells it. Get the idea?

Everyone on the show is perfect for the role. Jason isn’t there to be the pretty boy, the hairy hunk–which I think he is anyway–or the truly smart guy he is.

As for Scientology, there just is no explaining this phenomenon and why sensible people get into it. sorry if that offends any practicing members of the faith out there. It is, however, completely inconsequential to whether an actor does the job he/she is to do. We don’t boycott those who are Catholic or Methodist or any other religion we might object to.

Those days are long gone. Some of us consider most of the mainstream religions just about as nutty as Scientology but in a different way. Many of them want all of your money, too, you know. All said, Jason Lee is a brilliant comic actor and a terrific type of the hairy guy many of us love to ogle.

I mean, how could you not adore someone with the guts to truss himself up in Daisy Dukes, put on pasties and try to perform a burlesque routine? And without turning into a Bobcat Goldthwaite in order to try to pull it off.

I would not change one thing about the way this steaming piece of redneck meat looks. The only thing he’s missing is a beergut and I’d hit it like a rabbit on speed. Damn, he’s FINE!

I kind of Lee’s hair, and I LOVE the mustache. It’s a very 70s look (which is the point of the show, I guess – that people in Camden are waaay out of the 21st-century mainstream). You either like it or you don’t. Anyway, I feel an obligation to support all actors – yes, even Scientologists – who proudly flaunt chest hair and non-gym-perfect bodies in defiance of Hollywood pretty boy standards.
