Kevin Spacey in American Beauty

Kevin Spacey Shirtless

Back when I watched “American Beauty”, one of the most awesome movies ever made I was busy focusing on Wes Bentley’s unflattering shirtless scene. It’s just natural selection at the time. Little that I know a few years later I would find Kevin Spacey’s hairy chest more interesting than ever. Sure, he looks a tad less appetizing now but back in this film, the uberly talented and most-probably-gay-but-I guess-we’ll-never-know Kevin looks nothing but hot. Sizzling hot. I’ve also included some skin from Wes Bentley and Peter Gallagher.
I don’t know about you but at this day and age, I find the suburban dad types (in movies and real life) are extremely sexy. Don’t forget to see Aaron Eckhart in Towelhead and Doug Savant if you have similar interest.

Thanks to White Panda for this!

I’m not sure why – like, at all – but I’ve always to bone Spacey. I just…don’t know.

    Yes! Thank you Square!

I prefer to think of it as “American Booty,” and the pot-smoking scene with Wes Bentley is nothing short of erotic.

In the words of Kevin himself: He RULES!

He’s definitely gay. I was next to him and one of his boys at a restaurant in Berlin a couple of years ago.

    @Torsbol: No you weren’t.

He may be gay, though. I’m just calling you a liar.

kevin is a fascinating actor. and has a fascinating body. who is the young guy who isn’t mentioned. he is hot

Yes, he is indeed gay. At the risk of being called a “liar” by JAX, (such anger!) I personally know one of his young boys from many years ago. No big deal. He doesn’t broadcast it, but he doesn’t exactly hide it either. He’s one of our finest actors. And so is Chris Cooper who is with him in the garage scene. Now THAT is a hot man. I’ve seen him with his shirt off and he too is scorching hot for an older dude.

OMG, Kevin is Gay!!! I love it!!! He still rocks as an actor and I adore his gorgeous furry chest. I love his acting as well. He is so good and can do it all. The fact that he is gay is of no consequence to me and only makes him more wonderful to me.

    You Rock Kevin!!

I cannot look at any characters in this film sexually because the movie is too good and affects me emotionally too much

Yes, to confirm it, and like others, at risk of being called a liar, when I was a personal assistant to a producer boss of mine and we had a meeting with Kevin Spacey, she brought me along as the ‘young gay boy’ assistant instead of her female assistant because she thought Kevin would like it better.

Then, a few years later, I directed an actress who was roommates with Kevin at school, and said he was open about it way back when.

Kevin’s a gay boy, no doubt, no rumor, just gay.

Oooooooooh, Kevin! When I was a young man, dinosaurs were roaming the earth, being known as gay in the movie biz, or theatre, or just about any other artistic pursuit was the kiss of death in terms of a career.

Rock Hudson was forced, literally, by his studio to marry. That connubial bliss lasted about five minutes. He had a horrible, self-serving agent. Hollywood knew about Rock, he gave enormous parties at his pool, lots of naked boys. But, you could not have a romantic lead played by a gay man–the public would react in horror–so the machinery of “closeting” “cover up” was very effective. Even the trashy movie magazines of the time never hinted at what they probably knew.

Vito Russo’s groundbreaking book “The Celluloid Closet” was one of the first to document the “who’s who” of the category, and in a sympathetic way. He goes into detail about how gay and lesbian actors were treated by the biz.

The book was made into a documentary, released in 1996 I think, by Rob Epstein and Jerry Friedman with Russo’s blessing and was received by both the gay community and the viewing public at large as important and well done . Gay or not, Kevin Spacey plays a very convincing “dirty old man” leching after his daughter’s best girl friend in the outstanding “American Beauty” movie. Although many people suspected at the time that Kevin was gay, it made not one whit of difference in terms of viewing him as a superb, innovative, character-absorbed actor. Thank God!

    Robert I think I love you…

  14. WannaBuyADuck on March 2nd, 2009 at 11:18 am

Good Goddess. He’s only one of many, many professional actors and actresses who are gay/bi. Some on this post seem surprised that he could play a straight man letching after a young girl. Being gay doesn’t effect one’s ability to play serious straight characters. That’s why we call them actors.

  15. robert on March 2nd, 2009 at 4:37 pm

@wannabuyaduck: Don’t know at whom your reference is aimed, but if my comments led you to think I find it difficult to believe a gay/bi actor can
play a straight role, you misunderstand. Of course they can, have, and will, often with more conviction and human qualities than the so-called straight variety he-man types. That was the point. Acting is acting. If you’re not good at it, your sexual orientation ain’t gonna help one way or t’other.

Is he really gay? That’s awesome then. I wish I meet him :)

Kevin is bisexual. I too thought he was gay but then I saw him out with women and not just chatting from across the table but uh it looked pretty steamy to me. I would have loved to be in his position later that night.
