Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

I hope all of you Jerry fans were watching the final round of the CIMB Classic. Jerry was in contention for his entire front 9, in the 2nd to last group, and made it to the front page of the leaderboard with a birdie on 4 and an eagle on 5; only 1 shot off the lead! He got lots of airtime for the first 2 1/2 hours of coverage. There were two rain delays, though. The coverage went 3 1/2 hours over the allotted time, but they didn't show much of Jerry after the rain delay, except in the background of his playing partners who were both in contention for most of the tournament. Jerry got 4 bogies and 1 double bogey on the back nine to end up tied for 19th.

Here's a video of him almost getting an albatross on the 5th hole (which he then eagles):

He's not in the field for the HSBC this week, but I'm sure we'll see him at the McGladrey next week.

Keep the faith, Jerry fans!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

The McGladrey Classic is on The Golf Channel from 1 to 4, Thursday through Sunday.

Jerry's tee time on Thursday is 12:30. His tee time on Friday is 8:00 so he'll probably finish all 18 holes before the broadcast begins.

UPDATE Thursday afternoon: Well, I just turned on the TV and Jerry's tee time has been moved to 2:20. There must have been a weather delay or something.

UPDATE Sunday: Oh dear! Jerry was only 97 yards from the green on the par 5 7th, but hit it over the green into the "native area". He must have hit it behind a rock or something because his 4th shot was still in the "native area". His 5th shot went over the green to the intermediate rough, so he didn't get on the green until 6th shot, and then 2-putted for a triple bogey 8. After a few more holes, they called the game due to darkness. He finished his round the next morning with another bogey on 18, and then withdrew due to a back injury. :~(

He is in the field for the Mayakoba this weekend so keep your fingers crossed.

Check out these hunk-a-chunks on Golfchannel.com in a article called "Movember: Players with Facial Hair". They're referencing, of course, Major League Baseball where all of the players grow beards for the playoffs. All of our faves are there!

Two under through round 1 at the Mayakoba, tied for 25th:

http://www.pgatour.com/content/dam/pgatour/galleries/2013/11/14-OHL%20Classic1/187987784.jpg

UPDATE, Friday PM: Because of the weather delays, Jerry and a bunch of other players won't even start their second round until tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

UPDATE, Saturday PM: Well, Jerry just finished his 2nd round and missed the cut by 1 stroke. Oh well. I know he's in the Franklin-Templeton Shootout again next month, but I don't know when his next "official" tournament will be.

Dear Jerry Fans,

We're about to surpass 77,000 hits. That's simply amazing there are so many Jerry fans out there.

Tomorrow is Jerry's birthday. Happy Birthday, Jerry!

Good luck to you and Steve Stricker at the Franklin-Templeton Shootout next month! We'll be watching and we'll be rootin' for ya!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

According to PGATOUR.com, the Franklin Templeton Shootout is on The Golf Channel from 1 to 4 on Friday (tomorrow). On Saturday and Sunday, it's on The Golf Channel from 1 to 2, and NBC from 2 to 4. My channel listings don't agree and say 1 to 3 on Friday, and only The Golf Channel on Sunday and *not* on NBC from 1 to 3 (but I'm going to record it anyway…just in case).

There also appears to be a repeat of the final round on UHD at 4am Tuesday morning.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Jerry and Steve shot a respectable 19 under par at the Franklin Templeton Shootout, but Matt Kuchar and Harris English set a course-tieing record of 34 under par, 7 shots under the 2nd place finishers, and simply could not be caught.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

In honor of our 80,000th hit (80,428 to be exact) I'd thought I'd post a few links, old and new, for those of you (us) that can't wait until the Sony Open on 1/9/14.

Jerry does have a Facebook page that was created in May of 2012 with 59 "likes", but there's only a few old posts. There's no scores, updates, photos, or replies. I'm pretty sure that Jerry didn't create this page himself, but if it was created by a fan or by someone that Jerry hired to create, it's unfortunate that they chose an awful profile picture of Jerry snarling. It's a famous photo of him winning the 2009 Zurich Classic, but it's not a very flattering one.

The same profile pic appears on Jerry's Twitter page, but even though there are 70 followers, there's not a single tweet. I'm guessing it was created at the same time by the same person, but both sites appear to have been abandoned. Maybe we can resurrect them with more likes and followers, though.

You can always to go to http://www.pgatour.com/video.html, type "Jerry Kelly" in the search field, and see dozens of videos, including some interviews.

One of my favorites is a guy that calls himself "The Young Andy Rooney" with a blog about The 10 sexiest golfers in the PGA. His/her penchant is clearly for the older, "grizzled" veterans; but Jerry came in #2. We are not alone!

And last but certainly not least, this amazing montage/homage to Jerry on YouTube:

…and hopefully we'll see more of Jerry in January. He won the Sony Open back in 2002 so we know he can do it!

Go, Jerry!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Hello, Jerry fans.

Sorry I've been off the grid for awhile, but we've still passed 82,000 hits! I hope you all watched the Sony Open. Jerry got a fair amount of coverage. He was in a tie for first place at one one point in the 3rd round, and got lots of airtime in 3rd and 4th rounds. He ended in solo 3rd. We even got to see him smile! The 4th round was practically "The Jerry Kelly Show".

He also played well in the Humana Challenge this weekend, but all we saw was one birdie putt on the 9th hole of the 2nd round. At the start of the 4th round, the leader was 7 shots ahead of the players in 2nd place, and Jerry was 13 shots behind. He shot all 4 rounds in the 60's, ending at 20 under par, but ended up tied for 13th, 8 behind the leader. He got no air time at all. We only got a few glimpses in the background of his playing parter, Zack Johnson, who ended up tied for 3rd.

The good news, though, is that Jerry is playing very well so far this year. All 8 rounds at the Sony and Humana were in the 60's!

I'm sure we'll see more of him this year. He's not in the field for the Farmers next week, but I"m sure we'll see him at the Waste Management Open the week after.

Go Jerry!

UPDATE, Sunday 1/26: They've posted the field for the Waste Management Open and Jerry is not playing. He qualifies, so it must be his choice.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Hello, Jerry Fans.

Well, after 10 consecutive rounds in the 60's (Franklin Templeton Shootout, Sony Open, and Humana Challenge), Jerry shot over par for the first 3 rounds of the AT&T Pro Am at Pebble Beach, and didn't make the cut to play the final round. His playing parter was Aaron Rodgers, the QB for the Green Bay Packers (a fellow Wisconsonian) so all we got to see was his birdie attempt at 17 in the third round, and their chest bump when Aaron got the birdie. Well, at least Jerry was smiling.

He's not in the field for the Northern Trust next week, even though he did play last year. I think he's playing a limited schedule this year, like his close friend Steve Stricker. I don't think we'll see him at the Accenture Match Play the following week either, but I'm sure he'll be back for the Honda Classic on February 27th.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Dear Jerry Fans,

Well, Jerry didn't do very well at the Honda Classic, but he's only 4 shots off the lead at the Puerto Rico Open!

The broadcast is tape-delayed. It's 6:30 to 9:30 on Saturday and 7:30 to 10:30 on Sunday, but Jerry's in the 4th to last group with Jason Gore and Ricky Barns so I'm sure he'll get some airtime. There's even an article about him being "Back on Track":

http://www.pgatour.com/content/pgatour/ … -rico.html

Go Jerry!!

http://www.pgatour.com/content/dam/pgatour/editorial/2014/03/07/kelly-847-greenwood.jpg

UPDATE, Monday 3/10: Foiled again, Jerry fans. We didn't see Jerry at all in Saturday's broadcast except in the background of Jason Gore, even though he birdied the last 3 holes to get to within 3 shots of the leader. On Sunday, he was in the 3rd to last group with Carl Pettersson, but we only saw his birdie on 10, and in the BG of Carl's shots. Aaarrgghh!

Oh well. Jerry's in the field for this weekend's Valspar Championship so keep your fingers crossed.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Hi, Jerry fans.

I'm still here. I've just been very busy with work, and we haven't seen very much of Jerry lately. He did not play in the World Golf Championship or the Arnold Palmer Invitational. We saw him only twice during the third round of the Valspar Championship. He shot a final round 75, tied for 58th and got no air time. He did pretty well at the Valero Texas Open and we got to see him in three of the four rounds. He was on the front page of the leaderboard several times, too. Only 3 shots off the lead. He hit some miraculous shots during the 3nd round and we got too see that infectious smile.

Jerry did not play in the Shell Houston Open or the Masters. He tied for 31st at the RBC Heritage, but we didn't see a single shot on any of the four days of coverage. He did play in this week's Zurich Classic (which he won in 2009) but he didn't make the cut and did not get any airtime (except for an interview on the "pre game" show on Thursday).

Jerry's not in the field for the Wells Fargo next weekend. He did play last year but he didn't make the cut so maybe he's just taking some time off. He doesn't qualify for this year's Players Championship the following weekend. Jerry tied for 21st at last year's Byron Nelson Championship. Hopefully we'll see him there this year.

Keep the faith!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Apologies, Jerry fans. Jerry did play in the Players Tournament, but he didn't make the cut and got no air time. Even though he tied for 21st at last year's Byron Nelson, he's not in the field this week. Don't know yet whether he'll play in the Crown Plaza or Memorial tournaments, but he did play in the FedEx St. Jude last year. That tournament is 6/5 to 6/8 this year.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Dear Jerry,

This post is for you. You made the cut and played well last week, you shot a very respectable 2 under par to tie for 38th and you're 65th in FedEx points. Last year's winner, Boo Weekly, came in dead last at 75th, and Zach Johnson, who came in third last year, tied for 73rd. Matt Kucher, who came in 2nd last year, didn't even make the cut.

Lots of high profile golfers (Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Jason Dufner, Jim Furyk, and Rory McIlroy to name a few) are all over the map. They have really good days and really bad days. They have good tournaments and bad tournaments.

You are consistent! From the last two rounds of the Franklin Templeton Shoot out to the final round of the Humana Challenge, you had 10 consecutive rounds in the 60's. You've had a couple of 77's this year and missed a few cuts, but you've had 2 top tens and 5 top 25's. You're still in it! You're persistent, you're a contender, and your day will come.

Keep up the good work. We'll be rooting for you.

Jerry's at 2 under par at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. 6 under is currently tied for 2nd. Ben Crane is running away with it at 12 under par so I don't think he can be caught, but maybe we'll see Jerry this weekend!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

They only showed is par attempt at the first hole of the third round. There were so many rain delays that the third round started very late, and Jerry was only 1/2 way through his round when the broadcast ended. He dropped to 1 over par (tied for 55th) with 3 holes to go when they suspended the game (again) due to bad weather.

He looks like he's put on a little weight. It looks good on him!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

I was right. Ben Crane couldn't be caught at the St. Jude, and Jerry finished 65th. Jerry didn't play in the US Open the following week. He did play in the Travelers (in Connecticut) and tied for 31st at 6 under par, but got no air time.

He's not playing in this week's Quicken Loans (formerly AT&T) but is in the field for next week's Greenbriar Classic. He did not play this tournament last year, but tied for 12th back in 2012, only 6 shots off the lead.

Good luck, Jerry!!

Jerry was tied for the lead at the John Deere Classic but just bogeyed his last 2 holes to drop 2 shots back. At least we know he'll be featured in this weekend's broadcasts. Set those TiVo's.

They interviewed him after the first round:

Hi, Jerry fans.

I hope you saw the John Deere Classic. Jerry got a lot of coverage on Saturday and Sunday. He shot 19 under par to tie for 3rd. 19 under was last year's winning score, but this year Brian Harman could not be caught and shot 21 under. There's lots of video highlights on pgatour.com.

Jerry made the cut at the RBC Canadian Open and played all four rounds this past weekend, but he was too far behind the leaders to get any TV coverage. He's 59th in FedEx Cup points, though. That's really, really good!

http://www.rantsports.com/fantasy/files/2014/07/JerryKelly.jpg

He's not in the field for either of this week's events, but I'll post an update as soon as I know when he'll be playing again.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Jerry's did pretty well at the PGA Championship yesterday. Unfortunately, if you only recorded the broadcast on TNT and didn't add any additional time, you didn't see very much of him. At one point, he was only 1 shot off the lead, but bogged his 17th hole to drop to 2 back.

He started today with 4 bogies, but is climbing back, currently tied for 19th.

Open this image in a new window. It's super hi-res:

Hi, Jerry Fans.

Jerry's not playing in the Wyndham Championship (right now) but he hasn't played this tournament since 2011. He's currently projected 63rd in FedEx points, though, so he will be playing in next week's Barclay's (the first FedEx playoff event). If he stays within the top 100, he'll move on to the Deutsche Bank the following week, and if he stays in the top 70, he'll move on to the BMW the following week.

Keep your fingers crossed. Go Jerry!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Well, Jerry made the cut to play the final rounds at the Deutsche Bank Championship tomorrow and Monday, but it was a nail biter to the very end.

With only a few groups left on the course with a few holes to go, Jerry and about 12 other players were tied for 68th, just barely making the cut at +3. (Only the top 70 and ties get to move on.)

Luke Donald got a birdie to get to +2, dropping everyone down to 69th.

Robert Garrigus got a birdie to get to +2, dropping everyone down to 70th.

Out of nowhere, Brendan de Jonge got an eagle to go from +4 to +2, dropping all those those guys to 71st and out of the cut line.

Then, Robert Garrigus double-bogeys his last hole to go from +2 to +4, missing the cut and returning everyone back to a tie for 70th (on the cut line).

It was up to Andres Romero’s last hole. If he’d birdied it, he would have gotten to +2 and moved all of those players to 71 and outside the cut.

As it turned out, he parred the last hole, so Jerry and a whole bunch of other guys get to play tomorrow. Jerry is currently projected at 72 and needs to be in the top 70 to make it to next week's BMW Championship.

90,174 hits! Thanks for the support, Jerry fans! Go, Jerry!!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Another nail-biting finale to the Deutsche Bank, eh Jerry Fans?

Jerry got a lot of coverage on the morning broadcast on The Golf Channel because 1) he was on the bubble and 2) he was playing with Phil Mickelson (who they always show regardless of how good or bad he's playing). He finished all 18 holes before the NBC broadcast began, but the drama went on for hours after that.

Jerry was up and down, birdies and bogies, just managing to stay at even par, but found himself at +2 on the 18th fairway. He had to make a least a birdie to have any chance of making the cut to play at next week's BMW Championship (in the top 70). He was struggling with a hypermobile disc in his lower back, and you could see that he was in pain, but his 2nd shot (on the par 5) landed within 4 feet and he EAGLED the 18th hole to get to 66th:

Jason Bohn, however, would birdie the 12th to drop Jerry to 67th. Carl Petterson would birdie the 12th and drop Jerry down to 68th. Morgan Hoffman would birdie 17 and 18 and drop Jerry to 69th. Chesson Hadley birdied the 18th to drop Jerry to 70th, and then Robert Streb would eagle the 18th and drop Jerry to 71st, outside the bubble.

It wasn't until the final holes of the final groups that a miracle happened. Jason Day birdied the 18th hole to tie for 7th, which dropped Robert Streb down from a tie for 8th to a tie for 9th, which was not enough points to keep him inside the top 70, which means Jerry get's to play at the BMW this week! He hasn't made it this far since 2011 (where he finished 38th).

Here's an article with some photos and more video.
