Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Jerry shot a -2 in the first round and a -3 in the second round of the McGladrey Classic (today). He's on the leaderboard tied for 8th place!!

He's in the 4th to last group tomorrow (Saturday). His tee time is 12:40 (EDT) and the broadcast begins at 2:00.

UPDATE:  He's bogeyed 3 of the first 7 holes. I don't think we'll get to see him today. :~(

UPDATE: He finished yesterday's round at 1 over (back up to -4) so we didn't see him at all. Today, he played really well and shot a -3 to get back up to -7, but he's already finished his round (before the broadcast has begun) and unless they feature him in "highlights from earlier today" we probably won't see him today ether. The leaders are at -13, so he's 6 off the lead and tied for 18th, but a respectable showing nonetheless.

He's in the field for next week's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, though.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Jerry's tee time tomorrow (Thursday) is 12:20 and the broadcast begins at 2:00 (EDT).

UPDATE: He was at -2 until the bogey at 18, so he's currently at -1. The leaders are only -6 so it's not an insurmountable gap, but his tee time tomorrow (Friday) is 8:20 am, so he'll finish his round before the broadcast even begins. We won't see him unless he plays well and is featured in "highlights from earlier today".

UPDATE: He shot -4 this morning (Friday). He's up to -5 and tied for 36th. He made the cut for the weekend. His tee time tomorrow (Saturday) is 10:00 so he'll still have 3 or 4 holes to go when the broadcast begins at 2:00.

UPDATE: He shot a +2 on Saturday and a -1 on Sunday, so he finished tied for 53rd (and got no air time). He's in the field for the CIMB tournament next weekend, though. I'll post tee times and broadcast times as soon as they're available.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Boy, this is confusing. His tee time is Thursday morning at 9:20 am (Malaysia time) which is 9:20 pm EDT tonight. The live broadcast begins at 1:00 am (EDT) and there appears to be some sort of recap from 5-7 pm for all 4 days of the tournament. There's only 48 players in the field, though, so I would think that everyone will get some amount of air time over the 4-day tournament.

UPDATE (Thursday): He was at a very respectable -2 (the leader is at -8) when the broadcast began, but he only had 2 holes to go so they didn't show any of it. They kept showing VJ Singh and Brandt Snedeker and other players that were even par or worse. Go figure. His tee time today is 10:10 am (local) or 10:10 pm EDT, so he should have 4 or 5 holes to go when the broadcast begins at 1:00 am (EDT).

UPDATE (Friday): He was 4 under par through 13 holes (up to -6) when the broadcast (of the 2nd round) began. Of course they were showing the leaders all hovering between -8 and -10, but they showed every other player at -6 except Jerry. He even birdied the 17th hole to get to -7 (the front page of the leaderboard!) but they didn't show a single shot. I'm starting to think he's being blacklisted or something. He's playing really well. He's in contention. Hopefully we'll get to see him play over the weekend.

UPDATE (Sunday): Jerry shot a respectable 69 on Saturday. They showed his fairway shot ant putt on the 11th hole, but they were both wide shots of a guy in a green shirt. They did show is birdie putt on the 17th, though, and his missed par putt on the 18th. Today, he shot even par on the front 9, but had 4 birdies on the back nine to get all the way to -13, tied for 10th...but we didn't see a single shot of him all day. He shot a 67 today, and all four rounds in the 60's (again). I think the Golf Channel has written him off as a "grizzled old veteran" and not worth any of their air time.

UPDATE (Monday): He's not playing in the HSBC in Shanghai this weekend. (He didn't qualify.) He is playing in the ADT Skills Challenge (in Florida) on Monday, 11/07, but that isn't broadcast until December. He's not playing in the Australian Open or the President's Cup later this month, either.

I don't know when we'll see him again. sad

Thanks for tuning in, Jerry fans. This thread has over 14,000 hits!!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Well, I do have to admit that I think he's the bomb, but having said that, he's also really fun to watch. He's very expressive on the golf course. His body language speaks volumes. He laughs at himself and always seems to be having a good time. He acknowledges his fans in the crowd. He celebrates his good shots and grimaces at the bad ones. He's sportsmanship personified. He's a fighter, but he's also humble. He plays with dedication and determination, but with a sense of humor, too.

http://cache3.asset-cache.net/xc/102912546.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=77BFBA49EF87892102A727B1636DE2E63DF3E53AB529334F0CD624706363A1798D5F021F722DCEEFF06BF04B24B4128C  http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Jerry+Kelly+Deutsche+Bank+Championship+Round+VVT5SInj7rml.jpg

Yes, he's going to be 45 later this month, but he's had 5 top 10 finishes this year (9 top 25) so he's definitely holding his own against the younger players. His last win was 2009, but he will win again.

Thank you, Square, for the compliment, and for this website. Considering the number of hits on this thread, it feels like the official Jerry Kelly Fan Club. smile

UPDATE (11/8): Jerry and his teammate, Zack Johnson, won the ADT Skills Challenge yesterday, but it's not being broadcast until December.

Tomorrow (11/23) is Jerry's 45th birthday, or, as I like to say, FORTY-FINE!!

Happy Birthday, Jerry! Forty-five and lookin' fine, aging like a fine wine. wink

Good luck at the Shark Shootout in two weeks. We'll be watching.

There sure must be a lot of Jerry fans out there. This thread just passed 16,000 hits. Well, you'll be able to see Jerry NEXT weekend at the Franklin Templeton "Shark" Shootout.

It will be on the Golf Channel from 3-6 (ET) on Friday (12/9), NBC from 2:30 to 4:30 on Saturday (12/10), and NBC from 3-6 on Sunday (12/11). Jerry won this event in 2006 (with Rod Pampling) and again in 2009 (with Steve Stricker) whom he's paired with again this year.

Go Jerry and Steve!! We're rootin' for ya!

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

I hope you all saw the eagle putt at 17 and the birdie putt on 18 yesterday...and that irresistible smile. Solo second!

UPDATE: Our boys (Jerry and Steve, that is) didn't do very well today (Saturday). They shot -7 (total -15) but the rest of the field played so well that they got very little air time. They're tied for 5th, but we got to see them on the 17th and 18th holes.

UPDATE: Our boys shot 13 under par on Sunday to end at -28. They were in solo second a few times, but they were always at least 2 or 3 strokes behind the leaders, so they didn't get very much air time; but they got some. They ended tied for 4th. I hope you got to see them.

Jerry will be featured in the ADT Skills Challenge which will be broadcast on NBC on 12/24 and 12/25 (4pm EST). Set those TiVos!!

Happy Holidays Jerry Fans!!

Dear Jerry Fans,

I hope you got a chance to see the ADT Skills Challenge over the weekend, or at least TiVo'd it. We got to see lots of Jerry, and all of the players were miked so we got to hear their conversations. The game itself was a little goofy, but it was still, as always, a pleasure to see Jerry in action; and it was really great to see Jerry and his partner, Zack Johnson, win the challenge with two amazing par putts on the final hole.

Go Jerry!

Hey , please forgive my weakness to give into my primal urges . I think that Jerry is a fantastic Golfer to put it mildly . But if I could see a photo or two of some Jerry - Shirtless - I would be in the stratusphere !  Please don't be harsh and judge me .

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Not at all, scarreduser. Believe me, I've searched and searched for a shirtless pic and I don't think there's one out there...yet. I've only caught glimpses of a few silver chest hairs protruding from his golf shirt by watching him play.

On that note, this weekend is the first tournament of the season, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions...but Jerry's not in the field.

The Sony Open is next weekend, though, and Jerry won this tournament back in 2002 (and tied for 9th last year) so I'm sure we'll get to see him next weekend.

Here's an interesting profile, one of the "Top 100 to Watch in 2012":

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Dear Jerry Fans,

UPDATE:  Jerry didn't play very well yesterday (Thursday) at the Sony Open. He had four birdies and four bogies, so he was only at even par. They showed a birdie attempt on the fifth hole, and I haven't seen the entire broadcast yet, but I doubt he got very much more air time.

He played very well today (Friday). He had 5 birdies and only 1 bogey to finish at -4 (only 4 behind the current leader, tied for 21st) but all before the broadcast has even begun. Maybe they'll show his 9' birdie putt on the 15th hole in the "highlights from earlier today". It seems that he always plays well when the game isn't being broadcast.

The good news, Jerry fans, is that he's made the cut and will play the weekend. Yay!!! big_smile Set those TiVo's.

UPDATE: Jerry's tee time today (Saturday) is 4pm EST and the broadcast begins at 7pm EST, so he'll still have several holes to go when the broadcast begins.

UPDATE: Well, it happened again. Jerry did really well on the front nine, and got to -7, within 2 of the lead, tied for 5th, but bogey'd the 13th hole just as the broadcast began. He would bogey two more holes to end at -4. He's now 8 off the lead, tied for 41st. His tee time is 2:30 EST and is likely to finish all 18 holes before today's (Sunday's) broadcast even begins. Sigh.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Dear Jerry Fans,

We just passed 18,000 hits!

Jerry is playing in the Humana Challenge this weekend in Palm Springs. This was formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic, and Jerry tied for 13th last year. I'll update this post with tee times when they're available.

UPDATE: Tee time tomorrow (Thursday) is 12:30 EST. Broadcast begins at 3 so he'll be about halfway through his round.

UPDATE: Jerry missed the cut by 1 stroke, so he did not play in the final round and got no air time. This was partially due to his tee times and that the qualifying rounds were played on different courses with very few (if any) TV cameras. He is not in the field for this weekend's Farmers Insurance Open, but he didn't play in this tournament last year, either. He did play in the Waste Management Phoenix Open last year, so maybe we'll see him next weekend.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Dear Jerry Fans,

Jerry is playing in the Phoenix Waste Management Open this weekend. His tee time is 2:16 ET and the broadcast begins at 4:00 ET, so he should be less than half-way through his round when the broadcast begins. The broadcast is 4-7 on Thursday and Friday on The Golf Channel, but they haven't posted the 2nd round (Friday) tee times yet.

The weekend broadcasts are 1:00 to 2:30 on The Golf Channel and 3:00 to 6:00 on CBS, and I will update this post with tee times as they become available.

UPDATE: Jerry shot a -2 on his first nine holes, but all we saw of him was the famous 16th hole (with 20,000 spectators) which he parred. He shot a +6 on his back nine to end at +4. He's currently 2 over par after 10 holes (Saturday). He's going to finish his round before the broadcast begins.

UPDATE: He finished his round at +9 and did not make the cut for the weekend. sad

This thread just passed 19,200 hits so we know he's got a lot of fans out there wishing him the best.

UPDATE: He is not in the field for the AT&T in Pebble Beach next weekend, but he didn't play in this tournament last year. They haven't posted the field for the Northern Trust Open the following weekend, but he didn't play in that tournament last year either. He did play in the Mayakoba Golf Classic last year. This year that tournament is 2/23 to 2/26, and I will update this post as soon as I have more info.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Attention Jerry Fans,

We just passed 20,000 hits!!

Jerry is in the field for the Mayakoba Golf Classic (2/23 to 2/26) but this weekend is also the Accenture Match Play, so it's being broadcast live and the Mayakoba is tape-delayed on The Golf Channel from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm ET on Thursday and Friday.

Jerry shot a +2 on Thursday and finished long before the broadcast even began.

Friday's broadcast began with Jerry's group on the 11th hole. He played with Charlie Hoffman and Robert Allenby (who went on to tie for 1st on Sunday and lose a playoff to John Huh) so we got to see Jerry a couple times in the background of Allenby's shots. They showed the whole group on the signature 15th hole, and the announcer confirmed that Jerry had birdied 4 of the last 6 holes, which meant that although he was at +4 on the front nine, he'd scrambled back to even par by the 15th hole. My iPhone said that he had 3 consecutive birdies on the 10th, 11th, and 12th holes, and a 4th birdie on the 15th. He would bogie the 16th to drop back to +1, but that was enough to make the cut to play the weekend.

His scorecard was subsequently changed, however, and his birdie on the 12th was taken away. I don't know if it was just a scoring error or a penalty. We probably won't ever know. We didn't see Jerry at all on Saturday or Sunday's broadcasts.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Jerry is in the field for the Honda Classic this weekend. This is the tournament that he came in solo third last year and got lots of airtime on the final rounds. This is also the tournament where he hit his ball up in a palm tree on the 6th hole and got lots of TV coverage trying to identify his ball.

WE JUST PASSED 21,000 HITS!! That's 3,000 hits in the last two months. It's nice to know that there are so many Jerry fans out there. Keep the faith!!  wink

UPDATE 03/03: Jerry didn't do very well and did not make the cut to play the weekend. sad He did not get any air time on Thursday or Friday.

He is not in the field for the WGC next weekend, but he is in the field for the Purerto Rico Open. I'll post times when they're available.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

The Puerto Rico Open is on The Golf Channel from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Thursday and Friday, 6:30 to 9:30 on Saturday, and 7:30 to 10:30 on Sunday. It's tape delayed so the tee times are not important, only that he plays well enough to get some coverage.

UPDATE 3/8: Jerry shot a -1 today. The leaders are at -6 so he's doing ok. The broadcast is tape-delayed and doesn't start until 6:30 pm EST, but maybe we'll catch a glimpse!  wink

UPDATE 3/9: Jerry was at +2 through 10 holes yesterday, and then got 3 birdies in a row to get back to -1, but we only caught a glimpse of him in the background of a putt by Stephen Ames. Jerry shot a -2 today, up to -3, in the top 25, and has made the cut to play the weekend!! His tee time tomorrow is less than 2 hours before the leaders, so he's got to get SOME airtime.

UPDATE 3/11: If you watched any of the coverage so far, you haven't missed anything. He birdied the last 2 holes yesterday to get up to -5, but they only showed his playing partner.  Jerry's currently at -4, 10 strokes behind the leaders, so I doubt we'll see him today, either.

Keep the faith, Jerry fans. He's in the field for the Transitions Championship next weekend, and we just passed 22,000 hits!

I just found this photo from the Puerto Rico Open. Check out the color of those slacks! Persimmon? Strawberry Sherbet?

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Jerry's tee time on Thursday is 9 am, so he'll be finished before the broadcast begins at 3 pm (EDT). His tee time on Friday is 1:40 pm, though, so if he plays well we should be able to see him finish his round. Keep your fingers crossed, Jerry fans!

UPDATE 3/16, 3:10 pm: He's birdied 3 of the last 4 holes! He's up to -4, tied for 21st. I'm recording the broadcast and will not watch it until this evening, but I think there's a good chance we might get to see him today! smile

UPDATE 3/17, 3:40 pm: We only saw 1 Jerry shot in yesterday's coverage, even though he'd climbed to -5 and a tie for 7th. Today, we got a glimpse of Jerry early in The Golf Channel coverage where he'd climbed to -7 and tied for 4th, but shortly after the broadcast began, he double-bogeyed the 8th and we haven't seen him since. He's at -5 right now through 15 holes, but I don't know if we'll see him unless he starts making birdies...and on St. Patrick's Day! sad

Wranger, if you're still out there, I'll bet your loving the "Padraig Harrington Show". wink What is it with Irish golfers, anyway?

UPDATE 3/18: Jerry shot a respectable -2 today to end at -7, but never close enough to the leaders to get any air time. It didn't help that NBC had 23 minutes of hockey, highlights, and commercials so we didn't get back to the live golf until 3:24 pm, by which time Jerry had finished all 18 holes.

It's another top 25 finish though, so he's definitely holding his own and hangin' in there. He's in the field for the Arnold Palmer Invitational next week, too.

Jerry's tee time on Thursday is 8:15 am, so he'll finish all 18 holes before the broadcast begins at 3, but his tee time on Friday is 12:45, so he'll still be on his front nine when the broadcast begins. Keep the faith, Jerry fans!

UPDATE 3/23: Jerry didn't make the cut to play the weekend. sad I haven't watched any of the broadcast yet, but here's his eagle on 16:

http://www.pgatour.com/video/praxis/?y= … mp;p=08075

Unfortunately, he's so far behind the cut line that even an eagle doesn't get us those irresistible smiling Irish eyes.

UPDATE 3/25: Well, we didn't get to see Jerry but they're showing a lot of Graeme McDowell. He's in 2nd place and paired with Tiger Woods for the final round today. Should be a good show.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Wow, there must be a lot of Jerry fans out there. We've now passed 23,000 hits.  It warms my heart.

Jerry is not in the field for the Shell Houston Open this weekend and did not qualify for the Masters next weekend. He did play in the RBC Heritage last year, and played well, too. That tournament will be April 12th to April 15th. They haven't posed the field yet, but I'll update this post when I know more.

For Jerry, Graeme, Padraig, and Darren (but mostly Jerry):

When Irish eyes are smiling, sure 'tis like a morn in spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter, you can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy, all the world is bright and gay,

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Hey there, Jerry fans. We just passed 24,000 hits. That's 1,000 hits in just the past 2 weeks. Keep the faith!

Jerry's tee time at the RBC Heritage on Thursday is 12:50 (EDT). The broadcast begins at 3:00 (on The Golf Channel) so he'll only be half-way through his round and may actually get some air time. He's playing with Bo Van Pelt and Charlie Hoffman so keep a lookout.

His tee time on Friday is 8:10 so he'll finish all 18 holes before the broadcast even begins.

If he plays well and makes the cut for the weekend, the broadcasts are 1:00 to 2:30 on The Golf Channel and 3:00 to 6:00 on CBS.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

I'm sorry, Jerry fans, for getting everyone's hopes up...especially mine. Jerry shot a +1 at round one of the RBC on Thursday, but not good enough to get him any air time. He shot -2 on Friday (to get to -1 for the tournament) but finished his round before the broadcast began. He made the cut and played with Matt Kuchar on Saturday, and though we caught a couple glimpses of Matt, Jerry shot a +1 to drop back to even par, and we didn't get to see any of it. On Sunday, he was still on the back nine when the broadcast began, but shot another +1 to end the tournament at +1, and got no air time at all for the entire four days.

He is in the field for the Valero Open next weekend though. Keep the faith, Jerry fans! I'll post tee and broadcast times when they're available.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

Well, Jerry Fans, sorry to have gotten your hopes up, again. He didn't play very well for the first 3 days of the Valero Texas Open, but he was on fire on Sunday and shot a 6 under par 66! He still had several holes to go when the broadcast started but we only got 1 brief glimpse of him on Saturday when they showed Matt Kuchar's final putt on the 18th hole and everyone shook hands.

He's in the field for this week's Zurich Classic, an event that he won in 2009. Even if he doesn't play well, they typically show previous winners.

We just passed 25,000 hits so I know there's a lot of Jerry fans out there wishing him well. Keep the faith!!

UPDATE: Jerry's tee time is 9 am (EDT) tomorrow (Thursday) so he'll finish before the broadcast begins. His tee time on Friday, however, is 2 pm and the broadcast is from 3 to 6 pm on The Golf Channel. He's playing with Lucas Glover and Matt Bettencourt, so keep a lookout!

UPDATE, 4/28:  Well, Jerry fans, we've been foiled again. Jerry started Thursday with 3 birdies through 11 holes, but got 4 bogeys in the final 7. He had 2 birdies through 7 holes on Saturday, but got 3 bogeys, no air time, and missed the cut to play the weekend.

Keep the faith, Jerry fans. He's not in the field for the Wells Fargo Championship next weekend, but he didn't play last year either. They haven't posted the field for The Players yet (5/10 to 5/13), and I don't know if Jerry qualifies or not, but he did play last year.

Re: Jerry Kelly (golfer)

If there are any Jerry fans out there that have a recording of the final round of the 2009 Zurich Classic, please email me.

I copied my recording from my TiVo to an external hard drive for safe keeping, but it was about 20 GB, which was a lot of space back in 2009. A year later I had to use that drive for something else so I deleted it and have regretted it ever since.
